TUESDAY NOVEMBER 19 AT 8PM
Esoteric Cartography of David Chaim Smith
ADMISSION: TWENTY DOLLARS
This talk will present over 80 images from the practice of Esoteric Cartography which maps out territories uncovered through mystical inquiry. The work is an outgrowth of the Kabbalistic and Hermetic traditions and reveal processes of spiritual alchemy beyond the boundaries of all organized religion. The images are a radical departure from the role of art in contemporary society and establish a unique category all their own that must be addressed on its own terms. The talk will present examples of complex shivitis (meditation images), exploratory illanot (tree diagrams), magical seals, visual texts, and raw notebook materials.

David Chaim Smith was born in the New York are and worked as an artist throughout the 1980s. In 1990 he became immersed in esoteric mystical traditions, and in 1996 abandoned all conventional pursuits for exclusive dedication to spiritual practice and study. This coalesced through an obscure 13th-century Kabbalistic text called Fountain of Wisdom which became the basis for the practice of esoteric cartography (spiritual or occult map-making). David’s esoteric work is published in two multi-volume compendiums called The Lightning Flash of Alef and Psycho-Aetheric Alchemy. He lives with his wife Rachel, who designs and manages the publications.
